How food works
Three different dishes are active at a time. Each gives health, stamina, sometimes eitr, and has its own duration.
Maximum health and stamina are the sum from the three active dishes plus the base. You pick the combination for the task: combat, building or magic.
It is worth renewing a dish when its icon has started to blink. Later dishes usually give more and last longer. All dishes are in the “Food” section.
Cooking
The chain is simple: raw meat or fish is fried on spits, and on the cauldron and in the stone oven more complex dishes are cooked from ingredients.
The cauldron level is raised with upgrades: a spice rack, a butcher’s table, pots and pans, a mortar and pestle, rolling pins and chopping boards, a smoker. Each opens new recipes.
Fermenting
Meads are made in two steps. First a base is brewed from ingredients at the mead cauldron, then it is placed in the fermenter.
Fermenting takes 2,400 seconds of world time (40 minutes at normal speed; sleeping skips the clock ahead) and usually gives six bottles, while Berserkir Mead gives three. The fermenter must stand under a roof, otherwise the process will not start.
Meads heal, restore stamina or eitr and give resistance to frost, fire or poison. All of them are in the “Potions” section.
Farming
The Cultivator tills the ground, after which you plant seeds on it. Each plant needs free space around it: plant them too tightly and they will not grow.
Plants only grow in suitable biomes and do not grow in the Mountains. To get new seeds of carrots, turnips and onions you plant the vegetables themselves; barley and flax are simply replanted from the harvest.
Taming and breeding
Taming works through food: you drop the right food nearby, keep your distance and wait until the animal has eaten and calmed down. You must not attack it.
Tamed boars, wolves, Lox and Asksvin breed if they are fed and have room next to each other. Chickens lay eggs, from which chicks hatch.
Tame animals defend the base and give resources: hides, meat, eggs. A Lox and an Asksvin can be ridden.
Fishing
You need a fishing rod and bait, and the bait determines which fish will bite and in which biome. Casting and reeling in cost stamina.
You reel the fish toward the shore rather than yank it: if your stamina runs out, it will break free.
Raw fish must be cooked, and some kinds are the raw material for better dishes.
